About Heart of Herbs Herbal School

The school was formally founded in 1998, by Demetria Clark. By 2000 the school was offering onsite and distance learning programs and the Heart of Herbs Website was launched. Since this time period Heart of Herbs has served on average 250-300 herbal students a year world wide. As of 2010 Heart of Herbs has served over 6,000 herbal students.

One of the core reasons for our success has been the belief and support of each student. Our herbal students are all so individual. We at Heart of Herbs want to honor that and embrace that. We have had homeschooling teens to grandmothers (even Demetria's) in our classes. At Heart of Herbs we not only encourage individuality and diversity we embrace it!

We believe in supporting students in their work and their lives. That is why we have no set start or finish dates. Life happens and above all else is life! Heart of Herbs will offer you an educational experience like no other.

About Demetria Clark

I am Demetria Clark. I started learning about Herbal Healing at a very young age from friends and mentors I had in my youth and in childhood. I first studied under a teacher at age thirteen and I have been involved ever since. Over the years I have formally studied and apprenticed with Rosemary Gladstar (in beginner and advanced trainings),apprenticed with Jane Smolnik, studied the Wise Woman Way with Susun Weed and attended workshops given by scores of well-known herbalist from all over the world. I have been fortunate enough to "sit at the feet" of David Hoffmann, Christopher Hobbs, Susun Weed, David Winston and scores of other amazing teachers. I received my Aromatherapy education from the Pacific Institute of Aromatherapy and Jeanne Rose.

I believe that herbalism is part of my soul. It is something that resonates and makes sense to me in my very core. I believe that herbalism is something to share with anyone who wants to learn. I also believe in evidence based health care and I really feel that responsible herbalism can lead the way to vitality and health.

The school was formally founded in 1998. I have been teaching herbal and aromatherapy classes since 1996. Teaching herbs either in workshop format or an apprenticeship model has been great for me and it has allowed me to model my herbal and aromatherapy correspondence classes after the apprenticeship programs. Our correspondence programs are popular throughout the world, in the medical field, and with midwives, lay herbalists and aromatherapists. Over 50% of our students open their own practice or business upon completing the course and most of the rest already owned a business that herbals work well with or have a complimentary practice.

I am also a Graduate of SUNY Empire State College with a BA in Human Services. I have taken many graduate level college courses in Forestry, Botany, Horticulture, and Nutrition. Additionally I have done graduate work at Midwives College of Utah and Open University in the UK, I was on faculty at the Midwives College of Utah, and adjunct faculty at NH Community Technical College, I have taught herbal and aromatherapy classes at conferences, and apprenticeships.

In addition I am a member of the Northeast Herbal Association, NEHA, an organization dedicated to merging ancient traditions of Herbalism and the needs of the modern Herbalist. I am also a member of United Plant Savers and the American Herbalist Guild. I am also wrote an Herbal Column in Saponifier Magazine a Soap making trade magazine, a series of articles for Birth Kit from Midwifery Today and in Midwifery Today Magazine, I have had pieces published in medical, herbal and parenting journals.Additionally I have also worked for UMASS Medical School in a research capacity.

I am also a Midwife, Doula and trainer and I run Birth Arts International.

I am also a lifelong s tudent of Motherhood. I am the proud Mother of two beautiful boys. They are my inspiration and my reason for such focus. With the loving support of my husband I have been able to pursue my educational goals and write this program. You can now Order the Heart of Herbs online using our secure server.
