“How To Make Your Own DIY All Natural Skin Care Products”

I can’t tell you how embarrassing it was to be a middle-aged woman in my early 40’s and 50’s and all of a sudden find myself struggling with cystic acne due to a hormonal imbalance brought on by perimenopause!  After years of trying out numerous products and even going to a dermatologist in hopes of finding something that would clear up my acne, I started to realize that my problem may have at least partly been due to some of the harsh chemicals and toxins I was putting on my face.  After spending a small fortune on beauty care products and dermatology visits, I finally took a course on herbalism and discovered how to make my own all-natural skin care products.  As a result, my face has been thanking me ever since!  And it’s all pretty easy to do not to mention much less expensive.  That’s because all you really need to be able to make your own skin care products is a couple of therapeutic grade essential oils and a few simple ingredients that you probably already have around the house.

For starters, I learned how to make a very gentle all-natural facial cleanser which leaves my face feeling soft and clean but as smooth as butter!  I used just 6 simple ingredients which included Aloe Vera gel, coconut oil, some vegetable glycerin, juice from a freshly squeezed lemon, Tea Tree Essential Oil, and Lavender Essential Oil.   Just place 2 oz. Aloe Vera gel into a clean, glass jar.  Add 1 tsp. vegetable glycerin, ½ tsp lemon juice, 6 drops Lavender Essential Oil, and 4 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil.  Mix the ingredients together, and Voila!  You’ve got your very own all-natural facial cleanser you can wash with in the morning and at night before bedtime!

Next I made my own facial scrub. You can  use 2 oz. of your favorite oil such as Almond Oil, Olive Oil, Avocado Oil, or Coconut Oil.   I used 2 oz. coconut oil.  Then add 2 oz. abrasive such as sea salt, ground oatmeal, ground almonds, or fine sand.  I added 2 oz. ground oatmeal and 1 tsp. of sea salt.  Then add 2-5 drops of your favorite essential oil which can be Lavender, Chamomile, Cedarwood, Rose, Peppermint, Ylang-Ylang, Tea Tree or Geranium just to name a few.  In my case I used 3 drops of Geranium Essential Oil which is helpful for both acne and for balancing hormones.  However, just be sure it is therapeutic grade and test on your wrist first for allergic reaction.  Simply massage the scrub over your entire face in a circular motion, then wash off with the toner below.

Then I made my own facial toner out of a Witch Hazel extract which is good for oily skin and acne because of its’ highly astringent qualities.  I purchased the Witch Hazel from Mountain Rose Herbs, which is where I buy all of my dried herbs.  Simply place 1 cup. of the dried Witch Hazel  into a jar.  Pour enough 80 proof Vodka over the Witch Hazel to cover approximately one inch over the herb, and allow it to sit for 2-3 weeks.  Then strain out the herb and pour the liquid in a dark colored bottle and add 50% water.

Make sure you regularly cleanse your pores and eliminate toxins by using a facial steam.  Simply pour 3 cups of spring water into a pan and bring to a boil.  Then add 3 drops of your favorite essential oil such as Lavender, Rosemary, Peppermint, or Rose.  Drape a towel over your head and hold your face over the steam for 5 min.  Then rinse with cold water.

Occasionally everyone should deep cleanse the pores by using an herbal facial mask.  For dry skin, try 1 Tbsp. of ground oatmeal, 1 Tbsp. rose water or Aloe Vera juice, 1 tsp. olive oil or almond oil. 1 tsp. honey, and 2 drops of either Rose, Geranium, or Palmarosa essential oil.  Combine all of the ingredients together and apply to face.  Leave on for 5-10 min. and then rinse off using a warm washcloth.  For cystic acne or oily skin, use a green clay mask.  Add 1 part water and a teaspoon of lemon juice.  For normal to combination skin, use a green clay mask and add yogurt, egg whites, or soy/dairy milk.

For a simple acne treatment, simply wash or pat your face with lemon juice 3 times a day.  Or you can make your own herbal acne blemish remover using 2 parts Red Clover, 2 parts Dandelion root, 1 part Echinacea flower, 1 part Alfalfa leaf, and ½ part Capsicum.  Add 2 Tbsp. to a cup of water and steep for 20 min.

Well, there you have it – my 6 step system to more beautiful skin.  Now that you’ve learned how easy and inexpensive it can be to make your own all natural skin care products, what are you waiting for?  Why not get started by making your own skin care products starting today?  Your skin will thank you for it later!
