Review on Herbal Recipes for Vibrant Health by Rosemary Gladstar
Herbal Recipes for Vibrant Health by Rosemary Gladstar is a massive collection of recipes and remedies for every aspect of life. Rosemary has taken more than half of her life of learning and living herbalism and compiled it into a gift for families. As it is written ancient wisdom for modern times is a correct and precise assessment of this book.
It begins by talking about the history of herbalism and goes into what we should base our herbalism journey on, which is a whole diet and keeping your body moving. She also gives steps to building your energy and maintaining your stamina, all foundations of a long, healthy life.
It then moves into stress relief and keeping the nervous system nourished. Anxiety, depression, and more originate in the mind-body connection and unbalanced nervous systems. Recipes are listed for teas, tonics, extracts and more as well as foods and environmental factors we should avoid.
The next chapter overviews more recipes as well as small lifestyle changes that can benefit everyday ailments. An herbal first aid kit is listed as well as alternative herbs you can use. Tips for when you should call a doctor are included as well.
The following chapter moves into natural beauty regimens. Of course wellness inside the body is presented, not just the vast amount of herbal recipes. Steams, creams, cleansers, after-shave, hair products and more are at your fingertips. Inspirational words are written in story and poetry to get your creative juices going!
The next few chapters outline detailed recipes and thoughts about children, women, and men. As we know, we are all built differently and wired in various ways so it’s important to understand why you may or may not use certain herbs and formulas. She presents a vast array of information on each of the topics.
The book ends with taking care of our elders and many different herbal concoctions for those in their golden years. This chapter includes her rules for living well in our elder years and is of course sagely advice that everyone can take and benefit from.
The back of the book features a descriptive materia medica of sorts as well as a how-to on everything from harvesting herbs to which supplies you should use and dosages. It wraps the entire book up into complex, yet easy-to-use guide on everything you ever wanted to know about herbalism.
Rosemary’s writing is eloquent and personal and should be right next to your herbal collections as a staple.
