I try to make a point with meeting herbalists and sellers all over the world.
When we were in Egypt the locals in the markets of Sharm el- Sheikh, Naama Bay, and Hay el Nour were tickled pink that I also worked with herbs, and we talked about remedies, favorite herbs and keeping our families healthy. It was also so lovely to chat about herbs. I was an الأعشابى طبيب also. It is always so amazing to me how we are all so similar no matter our sex, religion or geography. We want to help our communities.
Being respectful of each other and being willing to listen both taught us all something. I am so happy that they all took the time to share their knowledge with me.
Traditional Hibiscus Tea
- 1 cup Hibiscus flowers dried.
- 5 cups water
- Sweetener to taste- it is often served very sweet, but I like it unsweetened myself.
- 1/2 tsp Rosewater
- In a pot add all the ingredients and bring them to a boil over medium heat
- Reduce the heat and allow to boil for 5 more minutes.
Almost every herbalist I sat and spoke with served me some kind version of this tea. I felt so chic wearing a white silk headscarf, sunglasses and flowing clothes in the hot sun, sitting on stools or plush carpets.
