🌿 Elecampane Herbal Cough Syrup Recipe 🍯
Elecampane (Inula helenium) is a powerful respiratory herb recognized for its effectiveness in clearing mucus, soothing coughs, and supporting lung health. This homemade cough syrup combines elecampane with other soothing ingredients to alleviate persistent coughs, reduce irritation, and strengthen the lungs.
🌱 Ingredients:
✔️ 1/2 cup dried elecampane root (or 1 cup fresh, chopped)
✔️ 2 cups water 💧
✔️ 1/2 cup raw honey 🍯
✔️ 1-2 cinnamon sticks (optional, for warmth & antimicrobial support)
✔️ 1 tbsp fresh grated ginger (optional, for extra immune support)
✔️ Juice of 1/2 lemon 🍋 (optional, for vitamin C & flavor)
🧑🍳 Directions:
1️⃣ Make a strong herbal decoction:
- In a saucepan, combine elecampane root and water.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and allow to simmer for 20-30 minutes until the liquid is reduced by half.
2️⃣ Strain & sweeten:
- Remove from heat and strain the liquid and put aside or discard the herbs.
- While the liquid is still warm (but not boiling), stir in the honey until fully dissolved.
3️⃣ Add extra ingredients:
- Stir in lemon juice, cinnamon, or ginger for extra immune-boosting and soothing benefits.
4️⃣ Store & use:
- Pour the syrup into a sterilized glass jar.
- This can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 months.
